Riders must be 21 years or older and hold a valid full motorcycle driving licence authorising riding of 500cc motorcycles. Foreign nationals must hold an International Driving Permit (obtained from your home country before arriving — it cannot be issued to foreigners in India). Co-riders and passengers travelling in the support vehicle do not require a licence.
You need to be reasonably fit — if you can climb two flights of stairs without getting breathless, you qualify. For Himalayan tours, high altitude can trigger Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in some riders. Consult your doctor before joining if you have any existing cardiac, respiratory, or medical conditions. Tours to the plains present no altitude-related concerns.

Guided tours are led by an experienced Road Captain — no maps or directions needed, just follow the convoy. Self-guided tours follow the same itinerary and logistics, but you ride independently using a pre-loaded GPS. A StoneHead guide meets you on the first evening to walk you through the route and answer any questions before you set off.
Tour groups have a maximum of 16 riders. Daily mileage varies by terrain — as little as 70 km on challenging Himalayan days, up to 350 km on national highway sections. We stop approximately every hour for rest. Estimated daily distances for each specific tour are listed in the tour itinerary on our website.
Mileages will vary every day, usually in relation to what we are trying to achieve. If riding in the Himalayas, it can be as little as 70 km in a single day, whereas if travelling on expressways or National highways, as much as 350 km. Whatever the distance we like to stop every hour to have rest. You will find rough estimates of daily mileages and totals for each tour within the tour details on the website.

Insurance Information for Motorcycle Rentals
Our rental package includes third-party vehicle insurance, which is mandatory under Indian regulations. However, it provides limited coverage. In case of an accident, insurance claims are often not pursued by parties involved, as the claim is typically directed towards the driver personally, often requiring cash compensation. In such situations, it is advisable to negotiate swiftly and continue with your journey. Your full attention and careful riding are your best insurance.
Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive insurance is available for an additional charge and varies depending on the motorcycle model. Please note that comprehensive coverage is only available for 2024 models and newer. For more detailed information, we recommend contacting our support team before finalizing your booking.
Medical and Travel Insurance
We strongly advise that you arrange for medical and accident/travel insurance before your departure. Riding a motorcycle in India, especially in more remote or challenging locations, can present certain risks. Having proper travel insurance in place will provide peace of mind in case of any unforeseen circumstances. Again, full attention and care during your ride is the best form of personal protection.

1. Altitude Sickness in Leh Ladakh:
Leh Ladakh is situated at a high altitude, which can cause altitude sickness in both adults and children. If you’re planning a family road trip to Ladakh, make sure to give your kids plenty of time to acclimatize to the altitude. Avoid any strenuous activities for the first couple of days and encourage your children to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
2. Weather Conditions in Leh Ladakh:
The weather in Leh Ladakh can be extreme, especially during the winter months, with temperatures dropping drastically. 4. Medical Preparations for a Safe Trip:
Having a well-stocked first aid kit for kids is crucial when traveling to Leh Ladakh. Bring necessary medications, pain relievers, and remedies for altitude sickness. It’s also a good idea to have emergency medical contact numbers for your tour operator or travel agent on hand.
Additional Tips for a Safe Family Trip to Leh Ladakh:
Always consult with your pediatrician before the trip, especially if your child has any existing medical conditions.
Consider taking a family-friendly Ladakh tour where local guides are experienced in handling children and can help with safety precautions.
